Not just a pizzeria!! A great cafe in the morning with good coffee and blueberry tarts! Tip: ask them to warm up the tart, and it's even better! There are also other bakery items and delicious looking breads. a good pre-hike spot!

Loved this place! We visit any bakery we can when we travel and this one did not disappoint! We walked in here the first day of our vacation and came back almost everyday. I loved all baked good (especially the chocolate croissants) and the bread was amazing! I smelled the pizza and surely should have tried some but did not get to it. We had sandwiches instead and they were great! I absolutely fell in love with the staff, not sure if it was the owner, but she was a sweet as can be. She remembered us from our first visit and carried on conversation every time we came in. Thanks for making this German Girl feel a bit closer to home!

Little Notch makes some pretty great pizza, although I haven't tried their baked goods at all. My girlfriend and I found the prices a little eyebrow-raising even knowing the ingredients were organic ("a small pepperoni for $14?") but when the "small" arrived, it turned out to be enormous, around a medium-large size anywhere else. The crust is soft and crisp at the end (which is common among pizzas in Maine), but in a way that you can tell it was probably baked at a high temperature (which is, unfortunately, *not*). It's got a slight bitter note to it too, reminiscent of an ale, which I wasn't sure about at first but gradually came to love. The sauce has a very nice flavor, the cheese was just right, and the pepperoni had an interesting spiciness which added a lot. I was a little disappointed that there didn't appear to be any crushed red pepper on the table, only what looked like ground cayenne, and I wasn't sure about adding that directly. The owner came by and we talked for a little bit. He told us that the crust is a sourdough (explaining the beer notes), the cheese whole-milk mozzarella, and the pepperoni specially selected from the West Coast. He asked if it was better than Rosalie's and it's a tough call. Rosalie's is obviously going for a greasier, more savory slice and Little Notch's is clearly more artisan and 'cleaner', letting the ingredients shine. I think I prefer that approach. Also, by contrast, the employees seem pretty happy here. The only disappointment was the homemade iced tea - I'm still not sure if it was mint or black tea blended with mint, but either way it was pretty watery. It could have used more time/leaves, but easily could have been just a bad batch. They have Allagash White, which is always a plus in my book. Also, the Wi-Fi didn't work, but the nearby Southwest Harbor Public Library's did, so it wasn't a big deal. They close in a week, but we'll definitely be back next year.

The flank steak sandwich was very good as was the turkey panini - both manageable sizes and very flavorful. The Caesar salad was lettuce with a bag of croutons on it.... OK, but I've had better elsewhere. The staff was friendly and the service pretty good. Overall, good for a simple lunch, especially after maxing out on Lobster rolls elsewhere.

Stumbled in on a rainy non-climbing day, so glad we did! Pizza was excellent (Maine shrimp, feta, garlic, tomatoes and spinach), wine, beer and fresh amazing bread. No nasty soft drinks/that sort of place. Salad at the next table looked divine- piled high with many healthy ingredients and everything local & fresh. Highly recommend for a great lunch.

On a recent Mount Desert Island vacation we ended up dropping in here around half a dozen times. At breakfast time we enjoyed the pastries - blueberry or cranberry scones, or blueberry tarts - and at lunch we had both the sandwiches and pizzas. There's something to be said for a bakery that also makes pizza (or maybe it's a pizzeria that also bakes?)...it's some of the best pizza crust I've ever had, and we had three different kinds over a couple of weeks. The hot sandwiches are also strongly recommended. The coffee is also good, the service is friendly, and bonus points for the open kitchen where you can see everything being made. A++.

The only place we went to twice while on Mount Desert Island. The blackened haddock sandwich was the best meal we ate on vacation. In fact, we had to come back a few days later it was that good. The blueberry pie was filled with actual blueberries and of course the crust was amazing. Don't miss this place!

I find it a bit odd that this place has "Pizzeria" in its name, as it is so much more than that. It really doesn't have the feel of a pizzeria. At its heart, it is a bakery, with artisan breads and pastries made fresh daily. We bought bread for our week's stay in Southwest Harbor, ate breakfast there twice and also had sandwiches made up for a picnic elsewhere on the island. The quality of everything ranged from very good to excellent. We particularly liked their blueberry and cranberry scones and their apple tarts. During the summer months, Little Notch has employees from Serbia who are university students over there. A couple of them have spent several summers in a row working at Little Notch. They were very friendly, gave great service and made us feel welcome. If we return to Southwest Harbor, this will probably be among the first places we go.

Great little (and I mean little) place in the Southwest Harbor town. It's a little bit bakery, little bit ice cream, pizza and cafe' all rolled into one. Family run. Lobster soup was chunky and nice. Huge slices of blueberry pie (claiming to be the best in Maine). If you're in the area it's worth stopping in.

If you're looking for good pizza on the island, I would definitely recommend Little Notch. I've had their chicken, hot pepper, garlic, and ricotta pizza once every summer for the last few years. I really love the flavor of the peppers with the ricotta and the crust is thin and delicious. I recommend sitting outside if you're here in the summer as it is quite hot inside the restaurant. It is fairly small though so seating can be an issue at peak hours. Little Notch also has sandwiches, salads, and pasta though I've never had any of it myself. The restaurant is also a bakery, and I do try a cookie every time too, and while they're good, they aren't anything too spectacular. Their breads are pretty fantastic though.

This place is many things. It's a bakery. It's a cafe. It's a pizza shop. Now, in all fairness, I had breakfast here... not pizza. I had a bagel sandwich with bacon, egg and cheese ($4.25) which was very fresh and a tasty treat. My bf had the french toast ($4.25) for 2 pieces of a walnut/raisin bread. He also ordered a side of sausage ($3) for four pieces of sausage, but only received two cold links. Lame. The coffee was delicious. But they only offered whole milk and sugar. No other options. The customer service wasn't really very welcoming, nor did they give us silverware. The ambiance is very cute, with loaves of fresh bread (around $5) to be purchased up! Plus there's a map where people can place where they are from... but no more pins for me to add New Orleans! bottom line- eh. i wouldn't be a usual customer. there may not be many great places near by, but there sure are in bar harbor or trenton. i'd make the drive.

We picked up a pizza to take down to Seawall so we could watch the sun set - the pizza was pretty good, my only complaint was that the toppings could have been cut up a little smaller. We got the pizza with prosciutto and olives and it tasted great but the prosciutto was put on the pizza in slices and was pretty messy to try and eat. The place wasn't very busy and we got our pizza in about 15 minutes. The next day I stopped to pick up a baguette and the counter area was mobbed. The cashier was very nice but very slow. The baguette was great, fresh and tasty.

Just walked out of a terrific pizza feast at the Little Notch. Great four cheese pizza and the roasted cold turkey sandwich was fabulous. Quick service and don't miss grabbing a pie or especially a blueberry or huckleberry tart on the way out. Great little joint; would gladly recommend. Can't say enough about the four cheese pizza - simple perfection.

We are from Chicago, America's center for pizza, so we are pretty particular when it comes to pizza. This crust was delicious. Crispy outside,soft inside....what else can I say. My picky five year old son ate an entire cheese pizza. That should say enough. Awesome. Place.

I really recommend the pizza...as long as it's to go. This was the only place in SW Harbor I found that actually had pizza, so we initially ordered a pie for dine in. I sat down at a table and was almost immediately covered in flies. It was so disgusting. All the tables were dirty, as well as the chairs. We abruptly changed our order to carry-out. The pizza was pretty good, very greasy though. But that was ok. Just don't eat there.

Little Notch will not get my 5 stars until they get their staff to step it up! I LOVE THE FOOD! The breads, pies, and desserts are amazing, great pizza for north of NYC, excellent soups but they are v e r y slow so while you're waiting, you get to watch facial hair grow. We'll see if this year it's any better. The kids who work there are cool but just not hustling the way you gotta in this day and age. Move it, sweetie and get me my lunch!!! Don't miss it though, really, great food and worth the wait.

The only pizza I've had in Maine (or even New England) that I could really recommend with any enthusiasm. We get the one with k. olives, garlic, and prosciutto and I strongly recommend you do as well. Quality has varied a little bit, but always met the need (I only mention because if there is a trend, it is not positive). In contrast, I can't really recommend the bread or pies.
